Does IP rating matters for hand dryer?
In public restrooms, hand dryers are often requested for a certain IP rating. IP code (International Protection Marking) classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against intrusion and water. The first digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts. The second digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against harmful ingress of water.
Protection against access to hazardous parts for hand dryers:
It is important to keep the inner structure of hand dryers away from foreign objects. One of the reasons is to ensure the hand dryer body won’t be damages by vandalism. Another reason is to prevent any accidents on users, especially children. Besides making the air outlet thin and small, we also have protection structures inside to further keep objects away from hand dryer motor. Therefore, unless it’s not maintained properly or is severely damaged by vandalism, our hand dryers are well-protected from hazardous parts.
Protection against harmful ingress of water:
We use epoxy on our circuit board, and other water-proofing measures to different parts, the important materials are already protected. Moreover, with the touch free feature, the hand dryers won’t be in contact with hands and water. As long as the humidity of the environment is well-controlled and the units are properly maintained, the building owners don’t have to concern for the IP ratings.

IP rating is not a sole assessment to a hand dryer and there are other criteria for a safe hand dryer. Also, the importance of IP rating on hand dryers depends on the installation site to decide. However, it’s still recommended to select hand dryers that are designed with suitable IP rating level to further ensure the safety in public restroom.
